This is my life in a big nutshell (think Brazil nut):
I like happiness, human rights, best friends, traveling, social justice
art, music, people, etc. I have a huge peter pan complex, which comes with its ups and downs, but I like to focus on the ups! Right now I'm taking surveys online to make money and LOVING IT. If you want some extra cash, check it out, fo' real -
I'm currently taking a year and a half off from school and volunteering for the Liberty Center for Survivors of Torture, in Philly. I mentor and tutor adolescents who have or whose parents have survived torture in their home countries and have sought asylum in the United States. I'm also taking some classes part-time at Villanova in the Fall: Developmental Psych., Intro. to Women's Studies, and Education & Social Justice. Besides the occasional online survey, to make money I also tutor privately. I specialize in PSAT/SAT prep-work, but I also help my students with English, Math, and speaking English as a second language.
In the spring I will return to Columbia University where I study human rights and non-Western history (specifically African). After finally finishing school, I want to work in sub-saharan Africa (or possibly South America) for at least 3 years, preferably at a rehabiliation/reintegration center for child soldiers or other young victims of trauma. After that, if I really really really have to grow up :-( I think I'll be going back to school for either social work, teaching, psychology, etc. though the thought of more school right now brings me to tears. I also seriously plan on moving to a cottage on the coast of Spain for a couple of surreal years with my baby dragon best friend forever. We will have a small monkey for a pet and endeavor to create art whilst lavishing in a Dalí-esque whirlwind of hallucinogens, the ocean, sexual musings, cabana boys, and, of course, a lot of sleep. The two of us are also currently creating our own business called Smart Art - Art for Social Action, which you can find out more about at www.smartart.us.com or by emailing either of us at smartartsam@gmail.com or smartartjess@gmail.com
